leadership

At nexus, we don't have the usual staff structure. We have not one but two teachers on Sundays, but neither of them are the people to talk to about getting involved in small groups or what to do with your kids. All of us are part-time, and as a team we share the many responsibilities that come with keeping our community going. Here's a rundown of the members of our staff, and of the areas for which we are each responsible.
John Sutherland

neXus Pastor - John Sutherland

The major part of my career has been spent in post-secondary teaching and
administration (both public and independent), municipal politics (school
board), and consulting (strategic management, marketing research). My
publishing has been largely in the areas of labour relations and business
ethics. I have been a lay preacher for many decades. I am married to Sharon
and have two children, one married. Canucks rule.

Kid's Coordinator - Wendy Enns

Kid's Coordinator - Danielle MacKenzie

Danielle MacKenzie’s background is in education and is currently studying to become a holistic nutritionist.  She enjoys hiking, running, writing, playing piano/guitar, working with food, and hanging out with her family and two Fermosan Mountain dogs. As co-coordinator for the grade 4-11 children’s program, Dani believes in encouraging kids to see themselves as connected to all, fostering compassion and love for oneself, for others and for all creation/nature.

kirsti

Youth Coordinator - Kirsti Dueck

Kirsti Dueck is a mother of 3 school aged kids, who loves to explore outside while rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and skiing.  In the past she has worked as a nurse and more recently as an adventure guide.  Her role as the youth’s co-coordinator will be to work with parent volunteers to provide the youth with a weekly session filled with fun activities and discussions that are culturally relevant to the teens and their individual faith journey’s.  She values building relationships over building programs, asking questions over giving answers, and story telling over lecturing.

Youth Coordinator - Paul Enns

Paul is a person who, like most, enjoys many different roles. Some include being a husband, parent, and friend. During his day job he is a mental health therapist to adolescents and their families.  If he can do any of the above while drinking espresso, hiking, mountain biking, or discussing a book, he is even happier. As one of the co-coordinators of the parent coop that leads the youth programming at Nexus, he hopes to grow with a group of people who value relationships, are curious about ideas, and who don’t take themselves too seriously.

The Leadership Team
